Castle Street, Kirkwall
The white building used to be the tourist info centre. It has been empty now for some time. The new tourist centre, which replaced it, is also now closing. Take away the cruise liner you first thought of.
This morning’s dances* were: Blooms of Bon Accord / The Recumbent Stone / Prince Charles’ Quickstep / Irish Rover / Early One Morning / Snake Pass and others. Many of the dances are very genteel with a great deal of finesse. However tempers were fraught today and someone was bitten (in the Bossa Nova). An unguent had to be applied. I can’t reveal where, other than it was upstairs in Kirkwall Toon Hall. After terpsichorean tempers had been placated, we went for lunch in the Kirkwall Hotel to use my birthday token. On the way back to the car park I met Ian fae Harray. Haven’t seen him for ages. Unfortunately his wife fell and broke her hip and she is really struggling, after six weeks in the hospital. He was on his way to see Graeme, who I saw a couple of weeks ago.
I can’t quite believe it but about a week ago the Current Mrs Creel visited me in the Bothy. Much to my amazement she indicated that she thought the shelves looked rather empty. What? I should have asked for it in writing. In the last 24hrs a distillery only bottle of Clynelish has been brought home for me by Alan and a Deanston 18yr old has arrived too.
Nic Jones is 77.
*Don’t forget you don’t need to know this.
