Second Half Underway
Back to Ainslie Park to watch Spartans v Peterhead. Two teams both already in the promotion play-offs but still jostling for position and potential second-leg-at-home advantage. Peterhead started the day in second and Spartans were fourth. The news that third-placed Dumbarton were losing at home was encouraging but didn't change the order of the three teams. Things got worse when Peterhead took the lead but Spartans equalised before half-time to leave the three teams as they were. However when Spartans took the lead a third of the way into the second half they overtook both their rivals the lead in the as-it-stood league table. Dumbarton equalised in the 89th minute of their game to go above Spartans on goal difference and then Peterhead scored deep into injury time to retake second spot and push Spartans back to fourth again. Everyone as they were with one round of matches to play. Interestingly Peterhead host Dumbarton next week. A draw means they play each other again in the play-offs. A win for either and a Spartans win at East Fife would see the losers in Peterhead playing the second bottom side in League One - either Annan Athletic or Stirling Albion - and the winners visiting Spartans in the first leg tie the following week. As it happens Annan and the Binos are also playing each other in an all to play for decider, although a draw would be enough to keep Annan out of the play-offs at the expense of their hosts. Looks like it will be a fascinating set of games next week!
As it was such a lovely day I walked across town for the match - taking some photos on the way for a sort of photowalk - and then walked up to the New Town to meet L at the Hill Street theatre in the evening where we saw the Arkle production of Cyrano. Several friends on stage and in the production team and other friends in the audience. It was a good show with a great performance from J as Cyrano. The scene with Roxanne at the end was particularly good.
