Ceramics - Yarn Ball Pot
made by Chris, a fellow classmate.
You can put three different coloured yarn balls into the pot and thread them through the three separate holes, or you can have one large yarn ball that is slipped along the zig-zag design slit until it is in the fattest end, OR any combination you like with the openings; then knit your project.
I thought it was a clever idea.
What I want you to notice is the padded bat she is using. Because her greenware (un-fired) pot has a delicate rim she is protecting it from breaking as she trims the pot bottom. Since she makes many fluted rims, she decided it was worth the money to buy a padded bat since the classroom does not have one.
I learned a little more about centering the clay onto the wheel, but need MUCH more practice in how to Pull up the sides. I did it wrong by making the walls too thin lower down so the top separated from the bottom (aka "making a bracelet and a pancake"). I need to acquire a gentle touch for this step. I did make a small, VERY small bowl with the bottom, but ran out of time, so will trim the bottom and blip it next week.
