Bristol Maid

I've spent so much time at my old hospital with my daughter just lately that I thought this familiar image of a nurse's head in profile - the trademark of the Bristol Maid medical equipment company - would serve as an appropriate pictorial memento. It is a somewhat ghostly image and quite why the company was given this name seems a bit of a mystery other than it was originally based in Bristol and the equipment was therefore "made" in Bristol It was founded in 1953 but moved its operations to Blandford Forum in Dorset in 1981 which would have defeated the play on words. Adele attended today to have bloods taken and an ultrasound scan. The blood results were encouraging but the scan less so, revealing an enlarged spleen. She has to rest and avoid stress for 4 weeks - not a discipline that will come easy to her.
