the end of the road
The end of the road today was a tearoom. We have had freezing cold weather but managed some good walks and today’s was the last. Apart from the cathedral, Ely has two things that set it apart. One is this wonderfully quirky tearoom, Peacocks, with hundreds of different teas, home-made cakes and extremely generous lunches. The other was the bookshop, Toppers, which had been described to me as one of the best in the country. I thought, well how good can a bookshop be? But now I know. Tons of stock, fantastically well organised. Friendly, knowledgeable staff. Free tea and coffee. Views of the cathedral. It was amazing.
Nice walk, fens, water, lots of birds, only a little rain and wind much reduced.
