Black and White

A straight forward, black and white kind of day. We left the greyness of Pavia, taking the train to Pisa, then continuing ‘back home’ to Lucca. Traveling back was simpler than our trip to Aosta, where we began riding on the CicloVia Francigena. Just two trains and a half-day, instead of four trains plus one bus for a long, full-day of travel. It was comfortable knowing exactly where we were going. Everyday for the past two weeks, Mike the navigator, was constantly on the job keeping us on track. Now he gets to relax. We have completed our adventure as spiritual pilgrims of another sort. We have cycled the full length of the Via Francigena in Italy (in 3 trips) extending from the Alps at the border to the Vatican in Rome. Well, there are a few minor gaps, such as crossing the border at St. Bernard’s Pass.
