Irn Bru are being "Fanny"

One of my working colleagues came across some of these at work... and it was a source of hilarity! It was a very busy and stressful day today so it was good to have a bit of a laugh! :)

For those who are not from around here, you may need a bit of backround to understand why it was so funny!

This is actually part of one of Irn Bru's advertising campaigns, some of which have created some controversy. They are now selling personalised bottles with Scottish names on them, following the CocaCola's 'Share a Coke' stunt, where you can find common British names on the drinks. This campaign is followed by TV adds that feature people drinking Irn Bru in embarassing situations. One of these TV adds, which features a dad in shock after his wife announces she will call her daughter Fanny, was a source of complaints. Here's the add! :)

And, as a useless fact, Irn Bru is actually the only national drink in the world that outsells CocaCola here in Scotland!

So anyway... although Fanny is a nice Scottish name, unfortunately for ladies who have it, it is also vulgar slang for a woman's genitals, used often as a swear word. Hence the controversy and the hilarity at work! I hope it makes sense..

I wonder how Fanny ended up having this second meaning...

Relaxing at home now. Have to get up early for a doctor's appointment tomorrow.

Thanks very much for all your nice comments! I hope you all had a good day! :)
