Back home in the woods
We were pleased to find plenty of Herb Paris looking spectacular in the woods at Brigsteer this morning, very distinctive with its 4 oval leaves set in a cross and an 'under-stated crown' of yellow-green flowers rising from the middle. Apparently (i.e. I've just googled it) the whorl of 4 gave it the name 'herb of equality' because all of its parts are considered equal and harmonious; the name Paris comes from the Latin 'pars' meaning equal.
(We found several plants with 5 leaves, guess they weren't quite as harmonious.)
