Retiro

My weather app said that it was only fifteen degrees or so in Madrid this morning but it was roasting on our terrace so there we stayed 'til noon with our books and rays were duly soaked up.

Bus into the centre, to Plaza de Espana, for a walk around the Egyptian temple and the Royal Palace areas as well as a visit to the cathedral with it's rather fabulous modern stained glass windows. After that it was off for an alfresco lunch in a very quiet, chilled out square off the tourist trail (and a brilliant little coffee stop straight after in an equally non-touristy square) before walking over to the huge Parque de El Retiro for ice cream, sunshine and sauntering. 

Photo shows the 'Crystal Palace' in El Retiro. I was quite taken with it, there may well be a few extras as well.
