Bog myrtle

We went to Roudsea Woods, to put out Robs moth lamps and have a walk round the boardwalk. This crosses the wet raised mire, and all the Bog myrtle is in flower. It’s quite a spectacular sight, all glowing bronze in the evening light. It’s the food plant for the very rare Rosy Marsh Moth caterpillar, which creeps up the stems at night to feast on the newly opened leaf buds.
Also to be seen from the walk was an osprey on its nest platform, recently arrived from Africa and presumably already brooding some eggs.
Bonnie collected some ticks, which I picked off before they could bite, and I do hope I found them all - this seems unlikely!
