New chain day

I've played out on bikes since I was a tiny kid, but  I've never changed my own chain, incredibly.
Well, today I set that record straight. It took longer than it should, and longer than it will on my other bike, probably tomorrow. 
Can you spot the deliberate* mistake in this photo?

* not deliberate, but spotted and corrected before declaring the chain installed.
