Shropshire Union Canal
Cruised for 6 hours today and am moored up for the night at Wightwick (west of Wolverhampton) on the Staffs and Worcester canal. The final stretch of the Shropshire Canal passes over The A5 and then under the M54. The M54 bridge is an awful concrete block that is just not in keeping with the canals 200 year architecture. Thomas Telford must be turning in his grave. Not even worth a blip!
Today's blip is yet another bridge. Bridge 10 (Avenue Bridge) near Brewood and leads to the 18th century Chillington Hall. The land owner insisted on a suitable bridge if the canal was to pass through his land. Hence the ornamental balustrades and expensive looking brickwork. Money talks!
