On the way to a 'Maher Ghar' to give birth
Village women from a remote area of Thane District in Maharashtra are being accompanied by IMPACT India's staff to a 'Maher Ghar' house (Mother's House) 8 days prior to their due date. Here they can deliver their babies close by to medical help, should they need it in the event of complications.
These women come from hilly padas (hamlets) which have no roads or electricity and are made all the more unreachable because of the rains. Giving birth in such a remote setting increases the risks for mothers and babies.
