Vixen Tor

A strong northerly wind made it feel very cold today on the more exposed parts of Dartmoor. After a climb up to Great Staple Tor I decided on a more sheltered route back, passing Merrivale Quarry and on to Vixen Tor. The legend associated with this curious-looking Tor is that it was once the abode of an evil witch by the name of Vixiana. who would summon up the mists and lure young men to the rock. Then, with a cackling laugh she would come up behind them and push them over the edge to their death! 
It is also the site of a prolonged dispute between the landower and those opposed to the prohibition of public access.
