Familiar frustration...

This week's cricketing disappointment came in Canterbury, where Surrey have travelled to play Kent in the county championship. A dull, drizzly morning put pay to the thought of any play in the first session, but hopes were raised when bright sunshine appeared at around 1230, and the covers were removed. Play duly commenced at 1325 and lasted for all of one over and five balls before the players were brought off for bad light, which was followed by a heavy downpour of rain. Along with quite a few local supporters I decided to call it a day shortly thereafter, and retreated to the warmth of my temporary accommodation. As it turned out some play was possible in the late afternoon, with Surrey claiming three wickets and Kent scoring 111 runs. The forecast for the next two days is better, so I'll try again in the morning.

The main photo shows the players and coaching staff of both teams lined up in front of the Underwood & Knott stand at the end of a minute of silence observed to remember Kent and England legend Derek Underwood, who passed away earlier this week, and Raman Subba Row of Surrey and England, who passed away yesterday. The extra is of West Indian pace ace Kemar Roach sharing a joke with coach Gareth Batty just before the start of play.
