Day two of the Internet of Things at the wireless conference. Not sure what it is about fridges and toasters but they seem to be the perennial apocryphal "examples" of IoT; which is odd as there are many better examples.

That said, someone wants to have internet video on a washing machine (so they can put the instructions on youTube...) and I'm not wholly convinced that's 'better' in any meaningful sense.

Eventually this will all settle down and the sensible ideas will rise above the weird ones. Meanwhile, I'm sure McNorton will happily sell you software to protect your fridge from those teenagers in Insakstan wanting to download your cheese.
