Teasel
Today's the day ...................... for a first
I'm wondering if the above is the first example to appear on blipfoto - of a self-growing teasel seed head?
The familiar spikey cone-like flower heads remain after the tiny purple flowers have finished. The seeds form and the whole thing turns brown in the winter. I imagine the seeds that haven't been eaten by goldfinches and the like, would then be scattered far and wide by the wind - and start to grow a new generation of teasel plants. This one here though has cut out the middle bit and just progressed to the seed-germination stage, in situ.
It probably has helped to have a never-ending supply of rain to the seed head - and a winter that has never been extremely cold. It's certainly something that I've never seen before .......................?!
