Saint Michel de Cuixa
Today's walk took us past the medieval abbey of Saint Michel de Cuixa, up the valley, back along the ridge and returning along the Canal de Bohère which irrigates several local villages. The abbey is a magnificent building and was an important stopping off point on the pilgrimage route to Compostela. I had underestimated the length of the walk. I only wanted to do something fairly gentle before tomorrow's match but, in fact, we ended up doing 13 kilometres with 440 metres of ascent. On my return, I saw a message on my phone from our captain which read, "Today rest, rest, rest, pasta for dinner, pasta for breakfast tomorrow, no 'cuddles', and no hiking." Oh dear!
