obelisk

I spotted this column while out on a drive and thought it was worth a blip. I parked up and crossed some fields in glorious sun so I could get a shot with the sun shining on it.

I just managed to get the shot when I then had to get back to the car in driving hailstones!

Happy with the shot though, so i guess it was worth it. I took a few shots at various settings and viewpoints. I settled on this one even though it defies the rule of thirds.

A quick google tells me that it is the Fairford Park Obelisk dated between 1751 and 1761. It looks quite impressive in the middle of the rapeseed field.
