Souvenir

A souvenir of our trip to Gent: an original crankshaft music box, which plays Stairway to Heaven. I got it from the Belfort - the bell tower. We happened to be there ay 11am on Sunday when the bells were being played (by a man, with his fists, on a kind of keyboard, in a wooden box near the top of the tower). Loud, but lovely.

When the man is not playing the bells they are rung mechanically using a kind of big version of this little crankshaft.
