In the morning I read through more of my MPhil student's draft thesis, and I had a good chat with him at 14:00. He's got a decent job with an optimization software company that will allow him to remain working from his wife's parents' farm in southern Germany, so that's a good outcome. I then spoke to my man from MIT. It's scary talking to people who might pay you a very large amount of money. I feel that if I say the wrong thing I might scupper the whole deal. However, his organisation seems to have decided to back our software project, and he'll help me fill in the necessary application form. This led immediately to a meeting with И, to start planning for the windfall.
