My Blip is a shot of Hampden Bowling Club - site of Queen’s Park’s first stadium between 1873 and 1883. The club had to move when the Caledonian Railway was built across the site. 

The mural commemorates Scotland’s win over England, the game being played there in 1882. 

The club moved a very short distance (100 metres) to what is now known as Cathkin Park and remained there until 1903. Third Lanark* took over the Cathkin Park facility and used it until they went bust in 1967. One of my Extras shows the stadium as it is today, still recognisable but with nature resuming control. 

Meantime Queen’s Park had built the current Hampden Park stadium (capacity 100,000 in 1903) just over the hill, and a mere 400 metres away. It still holds the attendance record for a European Cup final - 127,000 for Real Madrid v Eintracht Frankfurt in 1960. 

My other Extra is how you see the current stadium as you come over the hill from Cathkin Park. 

Today was not one of the club’s moments of glory - a 0-1 defeat at home against Inverness. Well, there is always next week. 



* The team was formed by members of 3rd Lanarkshire Volunteer Rifles.
