Local History

It’s always pleasing to find an information board, 3specially if it hasn’t been daubed in graffiti. It explains how an agricultural economy developed into a more industrial economy in the early 19th century. By 1834 there were nearly 100 local firms involved in bit and stirrup making, tack manufacture and lock making.  The area has a strong tradition in saddlery and I walk past a small artisan saddle makers each time I go to the pool.

Behind the board are a pile of anvil stones, used in the manufacture of these items as well as awls.

A short day tidying up some paperwork.  Now in holiday mode.
