Weather gods

Mx came in bang on time again this morning and was ready immediately for his pre breakfast of a jam sandwich and some blackcurrant squash! After he’d got that set up he waited for AR before they both had some cereal and Mt and I surfaced with more cups of tea.
In Mt’s quest for the perfect bakery we went out to Patina in the Gyle and enjoyed Petit Suisse, almond croissant, rhubarb and custard danish and (inevitably for AR) a brownie….all delicious! The early sun had disappeared behind clouds and out in the empty spaces between buildings at the Gyle (what call is there for so many office blocks nowadays?) the wind was whipping around us rather coldly. We drove on to an inflatables warehouse in Livingston….huge! They arrived when it was fairly empty and had a whale of a time running, sliding, jumping and bouncing for an hour. Whilst we waited Mt and I continued talking about funeral arrangements…
Home with two tired kids in the back, then had some lunch and chill time before I took them down to Dynamic Earth so Mt could get on with some work. Once again Mx wanted to walk via the volcano and this time we took the higher path along behind the crags ….not anywhere near the cliffs themselves as it was windy and I’m neurotic about kids and heights! Lot of chat throughout the walk from Mx about lovely views and how high up we were, and from AR about how to walk quickly and which paths to choose. It was steep on the way down and we all held hands, with continuous commentary about where to step and why I stumbled from AR. We were so lucky with the weather…there was lots of brightness and sunny glimpses as we walked and it just started to rain as we arrived at ‘the big white tent’. Luckily again it had stopped and was bright again on our walk home later.
They were doing an egg hunt information trail and, after watching a film at the planetarium about satellites and climate change, they dashed about collecting the info to fill in their sheets. As usual loved the 3D film (although there was less snow falling down this time) and touching the huge block of ice (looking a bit tatty and melted in places…lack of maintenance or representing climate emergency?!).
They won a little Maltesers chocolate bunny for completing the trail and whilst they ate it A called and we planned what to do over the weekend.
Walked home via the bagpipe shop which was closed, but Mx wanted to look in the window (he’s still going on about getting a set!) before going tomorrow.
I made them some cheesy noo-noos (mac’n’cheese) for supper whilst Mt was on a work call then gave Mx a shower and got him to bed. Mt and I had haggis neeps and tatties for supper watching the next Jim Al-Khalili programme about the mind boggling scale of the universe, and AR drew a very detailed picture of us all on the sofa watching it (extra) whilst asking questions about space facts.
Lots of laundry on the go today, and I changed my bed whilst I was at it so nice to jump into fresh sheets at the end of another busy day
