Sunbird

A southern double-collared sunbird. Barely 12 cms long the male here positively ignited when hit by the sun with its metallic green head and brilliant red band across his chest. He has a beautiful long curved beak for taking nectar from flowers can hover like a hummingbird but usually perches as here! What a looker!

After a luscious breakfast we hit the road to explore the neighbouring Leisure island between the Knysna River and the Knysna Lagoon.

The estuary met the sea at the far end and we stood there in a very rocky bay with high cliffs unable to believe the height of the waves the like of which we'd never seen before. The rocks at the entrance looked formidable for boats. 

On the lookout for a lunch venue we spotted a tiny reserve which at first glance looked a waste of time but in fact there was this small orange flowering shrub with a tiny bird just flitting around, The sun was harsh and it kept hiding  but eventually I got a few shots. To say I was pleased getting this was an understatement.
