Topic boxes
These are the boxes of books that we send to primary schools every term. Each box contains books and sometimes artefacts carefully chosen by my colleague according to the specs sent by the class teacher - topics, reading level and range of the class, any special needs/requirements etc..
With staff cuts, there is only one person left to empty discharge, and shelf all the incoming books, then to issue and box all the items chosen for the new term. There is also only one person to choose all the books for all the classes in the county, with a short turnaround. To say that's it's a mammoth task is an understatement. Unfortunately, because of funding cuts, this service might be under threat, despite the fact that it saves a lot of money (but to education, which my bosses see as "another department") - each book is circulated to all schools, used by a whole class rather than having each school having to buy their own books. We also know that they don't have any money either and just would do without the books probably, then wonder why the literacy level are falling...It's a no-brainer.
Sorry about the rant...
