Earning a living

You've seen them on The Ramblas. Human statues, body paint to look like metal, putting up with kids and worse, holding a pose through changing weather.

Not the easiest way of earning a living.

This gentle-expressioned young girl was in Covent Garden, stock still in the rain. Looking in her tray, she wasn't earning much for putting up with the rude gestures and gurning round her. I wondered, too, how she balanced.
