Problem Solving

We were sitting there watching something unimportant and waiting for the noon news to start.  All of a sudden the screen went black but the audio continued.... for a minute.  
   Then nothing.  Black silence.
   We researched the Internet for advice on resolving the issue and learned that the cause could be any one of 4 or 5 electronic parts or any combination of them.  Since I don't have any TV parts or the knowledge of how to test them we went to the store and came home with a new one.
