Dear Green Place 23 - Dams to Darnley Country Park
Glasgow's newest country park, situated across Glasgow and East Renfrewshire. It's huge.
It took me much longer to get around this park than I expected. I was hoping to get to the reservoirs, which are good for bird sightings and have interesting water towers and a viaduct, but I only managed to explore the ponds, the woodland and the fields of gorgeous wild flowers before my lift back finished shopping at B&Q :-) So instead of a water blip, a woodland blip. I loved the thick layers of weaving trunks that covered this fallen tree, all shiny in the rain.
There were bleachfields at Darnley the 18th century, but on a damp and drizzly day like today it's hard to imagine Scotland being a likely site for laying out cloth to bleach in the sun... Maybe that's why we had the drive to invent bleaching powder: first developed at Darnley, it reduced the need for extensive sun exposure.
