Amazing things, seeds. You can take a few beans out of a kitchen jar, lay them on damp paper and leave them in a warm place... and this happens.

A radicle (tap root) emerges and starts to take up moisture, side roots appear, the bean swells and the skin bursts open.... the bean is on its way to becoming a plant that, all being well, will make new beans.

Every year this miracle captivates me.
