Clear out
Fairly early start to drive down to Snaith to collect P’s things from the care home. So pleased A had offered to come with me as it meant we had time to chat on the way down as well as having her help with packing things up and filling the car.
It was so hot there…two large radiators full on, one of which we couldn’t turn off, made it quite hard going to get everything done, but we managed (although I did trap my finger trying to open the window which was quite sore!). T is going to collect the desk and bookcase when he comes up for the funeral but otherwise we managed to do it all. Kept being questioned by a lady who was obviously very confused and wanted to know what we were doing and who we were…she said she’d go and tell P’s mother about us.
Finished late afternoon (I should have taken a ‘before’ picture too) then went round to the funeral director’s to chat through arrangements and options. Funny little shop that was part hardware shop, part garden centre, part funeral home…very strange, and a very chatty man but who seemed kind.
A drove home, and T phoned to talk through what we’d done and next steps with the house and etc. Lots of reminiscing about P today on and off which has been nice. The weather’s been incredibly changeable…we must have had almost everything except snow at various points on the journey.
Stopped at A&N’s house and they helpfully took most of the stuff in so we can sort it another time without me having to lug it up my two flights of stairs, then I drove home. Annoyingly I couldn’t get a nearby parking space but was just pleased to get in and have some leftovers from our roast dinner yesterday and collapse a bit. Somehow managed to burn my arm on steam from the kettle which was very painful. It’s been a very long day!
