Wanderings and meanders

Sanctuary

Durham Cathedral

This is a replica of the 12th century Sanctuary Knocker. In the middle ages a person who had "committed a great offence" (or been accused presumably, the sign didn't say) could touch the knocker and be granted 37 days sanctuary in the Cathedral. After which they had to choose between trial and voluntary exile.

Wandered around Durham and the Cathedral this morning. Then a lift to the village of Easington for a baby shower. Mother to be looking really well and enjoyed the day.

Crashed (by way of invitation) family drinks and a meal in the evening. Really nice to catch up.
