Not Only A Red & White Door, Maidstone
After doing the weekly food shop and having our usual pint at The Horseshoes we headed into town for a spot of lunch at a Thai restaurant called the Giggling Squid. We shared four small plates between us. The food was really fresh and tasty but I would say the portions were a bit on the parsimonious side. So we then moved on to Valerie Patisserie for two shared cakes (a baked cheesecake and a chocolate eclair) and a cappuccino each.It was a rather delightful way to spend a couple of hours!
Today's image was taken on one of the side streets in town. I just loved the reflections and colours caught in the strong sunlight.
The extra, "A Fan Of The Museum", I also took because I loved the reflections in the glass extension of the town's museum and how they created a different form of confusing reality.
On a different matter just wanted to draw attention to the excellent documentary that was on BBC4 about the wonderful photography of the almost unknown but brilliant Tish Murtha. Her images of her community taken in the 1970's and early 1980's are every bit as good as the much more praised work of Chris Killip and the ubiquitous Martin Parr. It's very sad that her images were not more appreciated in her lifetime. Luckily, her daughter's determination to show how good she really was has now born fruit. I own one of the books she helped publish called Youth Unemployment (it's fantastic). I would also recommend viewing her photographs from the book Juvenile Jazz Bands which features some absolutely brilliantly evocative images.
