York Minster
The ringers of York Minster have been doing their stuff this weekend. They have rung a peal and several quarter peals as well as helping the local band develop their skills. I have rung some touches of methods I would not normally have the opportunity to ring. Today we were to ring a touch of Grandsire doubles, but the conductor called a halt after 15 minutes or so as the ringer for whom the quarter had been organised was making too many mistakes. She is going to have another go this afternoon. A little bit of history was made this morning. Several of the ringers come from the student ringing society at the university and are very keen. One of them has created a Doubles variation on a method which was rung for the first time ever. This gives him the right to name the variation. He named it after the village. For anyone interested, a new variation is an existing method (in this case, St Faith Place) coupled with one or more calls (in this case, an Old Thumper single) in a combination which has not been done before.
