Edward Scissorhands
Again it was grey and overcast but at least it wasn’t cold despite the strong wind. I walked over to drop off some champagne for Phil and Carol and who recently celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary. They went to stay in a nice hotel in Yorkshire and aren’t having a party.
Ailie picked me up at 5.30 for our jaunt to town for the ballet. She loves dance and is far more knowledgeable then I. It was Mathew Bourne’s Edward Scissorhands which had been well-received. The costumes were great as was the story-telling but for us there wasn’t enough dance. Both the dancing and music were repetitive. It was played for comic value, got lots of laughs yet it’s a sad story. Maybe it would work better as a musical than as a ballet. We did enjoy the last dance though and the performance got a standing ovation.
#2 daughter is winging her way home from Milan where she went for a work thing. She had a night at the beginning and end at her own expense so that she could see a bit of the city. She actually doesn’t start work officially till next week - she’s the jammy one. Her room was too hot but they said it was still winter so aircon wasn’t on, heating was. She complained as she couldn’t sleep for the heat. It was a posh hotel opposite the cathedral. They took one night off the bill and gave her another room. Well done her.
