Look Out

Foulshaw Moss

I travelled up mid morning, but diverted to visit friends on the way (I am gradually reconnecting over coming weeks and months). That meant I arrived at Holly mid afternoon. After switching things on I travelled to the Booths at Milnthorpe for provisions and then late afternoon took a quick trip to Foulshaw Moss.

It was very windy, Storm Kathleen is heading in. This is a view looking south-east from the boardwalk. In the distance, beyond the belt of trees, a solitary Scots Pine holds the Osprey nest. Both birds are now back from their sojourn in West Africa. The high(ish) land in the distance is Arnside Knott on the other side of the Kent Estuary (one of the Osprey’s fishing grounds). The terracotta colouring in the foreground is the catkins of bog myrtle, which clearly enjoys the wet, acidic conditions here. I seemed to be the only person here, partly because it’s late, and partly because it’s very windy. The Ospreys are in for a rocky night in their eyrie.
