Stormy crossing

This morning we set off early with the hope of catching the Mull ferry from Oban that we had booked but we knew that Storm Kathleen was liable to cause problems on that route in the West Coast of Scotland.

Sure enough a couple of hours into our journey we got a text to say the ferry was cancelled so we headed for Fort William and caught the Corran ferry on its short crossing then drove down the narrow roads to Lochaline with fingers crossed that the ferry to Fishnish on Mull wouldn’t also be cancelled.

It was a great relief to find it was running and although we didn’t get on the first one that was leaving we were near the front of the queue for the next one.
The blip shows the Lochinver arriving and the horizontal wind sock gives an idea of the strength of the wind. Thankfully this crossing is much more sheltered and only 15 minutes compared with the 45 minute crossing from Oban to Craignure.
We landed on Mull a bit further North but with the cancelled ferry the single track roads were a lot quieter than usual.  We reached  the Croft of our friends D and L in the early afternoon a little more than 6 hours after leaving home and very relieved to made it despite the gales.
