Champagne for the victors!

We played our much anticipated match today. The match was decided in the final doubles which we won 10/7 in the final super tiebreak, very close indeed. Our strategy worked. Our best player won his match. I lost mine against a much better player but did not disgrace myself and then we scraped through the doubles. That means we win our pool and will play the semi-final at home against the runner-up in the other pool. We have a good chance of progressing to the departmental final that means. We then sat down to a very convivial meal with the opposition which lasted most of the afternoon as these things often do. We even cracked open a bottle of champagne.
