Baskets

The craziness that is the wicker basket rides down the steep hill from Monte. Although very much a tourist attraction these days, the mode of transport itself dates back to the early 19th century when the baskets were used by the local inhabitants as a means of rapid transportation between Monte and the city of Funchal. Anyway, lots of fun and mildly terrifying.
