At last . . .
. . . something is happening. After years and years of planning, reviewing, delaying, more planning, reviewing and delaying, the A66 Northern Trans-Pennine Project has finally been signed off and work can begin.
The plan is to upgrade to dual carriageway the bits that are still single carriageway on this major east/west route from Scotch Corner to Penrith, used so much by freight, as well as tourists and local traffic. Apparently it is one of the roads most used by heavy goods vehicles in the country and this upgrade only completes an upgrade that was partially done several years ago. It is very much needed . . . as we users can witness.
Anyway, here we go. Except that a few major challenges have to be dealt with first and this is one - the diversion of a gas mains line. Simple!
I wonder whether we will still be here when the whole work is finished. Will we still be alive when it is finished . . .
