Motley crew , Oglethorpe Park
Still in St. Augustine where my husband was speaking at the
unveiling of a cannon battery and dedication ceremony
representing the defeated forces of British Georgia during the
War of Jenkins' Ear fought against Spanish Florida.
" General James Oglethorpe commanding military forces from Georgia and Carolina
bombarded Castillo de San Marcos from June 27n to July 20 th, 1740. The Castillo's massive coquina walls
absorbed the cannon shot and damage was slight .Frustrated by the military stalemate and the oncoming hurricane season , Oglethorpe withdrew to Georgia."
( coquina is a type of rock made of compressed seashells)
The British club were out in force and were most vocal !! It was refreshing to hear accents from home
