Another day , another era..

This tombstone is one of many in the graveyard of a Norman church replaced by a ‘ Victorian’ church destroyed by bombing in the 1940s in Clifton where we walk at least once a week on Lime walk but known as Birdcage Walk.

Not long ago most people when they died were buried and many of the Stones commemorate the deaths of men and also their partners as illustrated. So even in death the women were subservient to the male partners.

One could use this and other churchyards to illustrate history of Britain ….. or I think that’s what Mrs UE said?
