Easter Egg Surprise
I was separating egg yolks from whites in order to make meringues when I was surprised to see a tiny egg within one of the eggs.
An Internet search revealed that while this is rare, it is not unknown.
The phenomenon is known as matronism, derived from the Russian word matryoshka (little matron in English, describing the famous nesting or stacking dolls.)
You can see how the word relates to the second, smaller egg which I see as ectopic (occurring in an abnormal position or in an unusual manner or form).
I am tempted to say egg-topic, ha ha ha.
I was a bit put off by it all, and recombined the eggs and made scrambled egg on toast.
