Good Looking

A tourist-board sort of day yields a tourist-board sort of picture: a view across the Manifold valley, including a tourist hot-spot. The large rocky outcrop on the left, just below the horizon, incorporates 'Thor's Cave': dissolved out of the limestone rock by the action of slightly acidic rainwater - one of the features of a 'karst' landscape. We have not yet actually walked right up to it, but its 7.5m x 10m mouth looks dramatic from the riverside, 80 metres below

What the picture doesn't show is the quagmire that we slipped and slid through, as we climbed the steep slope through the wood from the river to this point, or the cattle slurry spread liberally on the steep field in the foreground, and washing down the slope towards the river. No need to worry the tourists
