Bride On The Beach

My niece Jackie married her sweetheart Derek in Provincetown. Here they are making comic poses for the photographer. This is at the very end of Cape Cod. This is the exact spot where the Pilgrims landed in Massachusetts before they finally unloaded and settled at Plymouth in 1620, which is at the beginning of the cape.

In the harbor here in the picture on July 21, 1918 the German submarine U-156 appeared and fired upon the merchant vessels. There were US Navy bases nearby, but the submarine went unopposed, sitting there for 90 minutes, firing 147 rounds and killing a few people. The same enemy craft then went elsewhere along the coast and sank several ships. It was widely believed that the movements of U-156 were guided by persons who knew these complicated waters quite intimately, and that something was very fishy about the US Navy's non-response.

The afternoon of the reception was the only piece of the weekend when the sun showed itself and the miserable, wet weather abated. The bride said that it was Grandma Mary's doing --she was very close to my mother, who died when Jackie was about ten years old.

The little girl watching the wedding party horse around was accompanied by an adult who communicated with her by sign language. I wan't sure which of the two was hearing impaired.

This was a wonderful family gathering. Here in my folio I gather with all my siblings for the 1st time.
Here is my cousin Paulette's daughter Ceridwen, who I met for the first time. She's two years old, and I hope to introduce her to the other Ceridwen some day.
