Saxon Sundial
At St Gregory's Minster, Kirkdale
We had a lovely circular walk up the wooded valley from the little church. We started early and got the best of the weather. We then drove on to Pickering and found a cafe for lunch.
The sundial is from the mid 11th century and is flanked by two panels, bearing an inscription in Old English. The sundial commemorates the rebuilding of the ruined church in about the year 1055 by Orm, son of Gamal.
