Hedge Planting
We were keen to get involved in the Hampshire Hedge Project, having attended a talk by Ellie, the Project's leader, a couple of weeks ago,Hampshire Hedge Project so we signed up for a session of hedge planting today, at a local county farm. Today was the only date we could make and it was the last session this winter. Unfortunately, the weather was atrocious! There was heavy rain most of the morning, followed by strong winds this afternoon. The good news was that, over the past few months, Ellie and her team of volunteers had already planted her goal of 5 km of hedging, and there wasn't much to do today, apart from adding a few more whips to the hedge in the photo, and then to shelter in a big barn for soup and bread while getting to know better the other dozen people present, and to discuss the next works Ellie has in mind. Mulching the newly planted hedging is on the cards for the next couple of months, provided she can source enough material.
Late afternoon, we visited our friend, C, to be briefed about the local Easter Egg Hunt on Sunday, where we will be helping. At least the weather forecast is looking better by then...
