Poppy verge

At one time there would have been fields full of red poppies but agricultural "reforms" using chemical sprays killed most of them. Now, apart from in a few fields, they are generally found on the verges of fields and roads. But the thousands of seeds from each plant can lie dormant for very many years and when the land is disturbed, it can quickly become transformed into a mass of red, with each plant being capable of having 400 flowers in the season.
