Diary of an Edinburgher

New pills…

Pip came for a visit this morning. He hasn't been for a while. He's a good lad - just snoozes all day if it's too wet to go out. The drizzle cleared by midday, and in fact, the sun came out for a few hours and it was quite warm(ish).

Archie was woofing last night at the back door. I got up, and he went out and just sat in the middle of the lawn, then he had a wee stretch and stroll round the edge. No desperate need for a piddle. I was not pleased with him. This happens most nights. And I've told him the story of the boy who cried 'Wolf!' but he doesn't get the message. Almost every night since we've been back from Australia at the beginning of February, he's been unsettled, runn8ng aroind, woofing to get out, and sometimes just going to lie down again if nobody comes soon enough, indicating that he didn't really need out.

It's been going on while his lumps and operation and upset tum have been happening, so we haven't mentioned it to the vet. We thought all the stress was causing it, and it would stop. No... So we went to see the vet this afternoon. She's baffled, and asked if he's shown any signs of dementia...  'Like what?' We didn't ask, just saying ' No!'

So we're trying new pills that are used for old dogs who can't settle at night. Hope they work, as we can get them online, and not have to pay the vet's prices…

On a more positive note: We're really enjoying Richard E Grant's series called 'Write Around the World' where he talks about his favourite books and goes to the places they were written in, eg he goes to Portofino and discusses 'The Talented Mr Ripley'. He stays in the very hotel room that Patricia Highsmith stayed in to write the book.
