Down To The Wire For A Fantastic Mr Fox
Today we took a short trip out to Tyland Barn at Sandling, which is the headquarters of the Kent Wildlife Trust. It's a restored 17th Century barn with an attached wildlife haven which at various times of the year is home to bees, tadpoles and in recent years even breeding kestrels despite it being in an unfavourable site right next to a busy motorway.
It's like the Kent countryside in microcosm - with it's own small-scale woodland, winding paths, hedgerows and wildflower meadow alongside a large pond which is teeming with life.
On our visit it was positively packed with a substantial party of primary school kids who seemed to be having an absolute whale of a time down by the pond - although I don't think there were any actual large aquatic mammals traversing its depths at the time! :-)
It also has its own cafe so of course we had to combine our compact and bijou wildlife experience with lunch. Today's image of our fantastically sculpted mesh based vulpine friend was captured at the very last moment just as we were about to leave as unfortunately I hadn't been able to garner any shots of bees, tadpoles or indeed breeding kestrels.
